The "Open Book" workshop
"À livre ouvert", located at 24 rue de Lausanne in Fribourg, is a workshop specializing in the conservation and restoration of written and graphic heritage.
It assists individuals, institutions, and collections in the preservation of books, manuscripts, documents, and works on paper, with particular attention to respecting the materials, the history of the objects, and their integrity. The workshop intervenes with precise and measured techniques, ranging from assessing the state of conservation to providing appropriate treatments, favoring reversible and sustainable solutions.
Rooted in the expertise of the paper and book conservator/restorer profession, "À livre ouvert" combines technical expertise, heritage sensitivity, and in-depth knowledge of ancient and contemporary materials. Its approach aims both to stabilize the works and to transmit their material memory, so that they can continue to be consulted, studied, and admired over time.
Beyond her collaborations with institutions, Carole Jeanneret is particularly keen to offer these services to private clients, so that everyone can benefit from professional support for their precious books, family documents or heritage items.
In addition to restoration, the workshop offers bookbinding and gilding services, in a handcrafted approach that combines precision, patience and attention to detail.
Restoration and conservation
We offer conservation/restoration services for old and modern books (leather, cloth, paper, comics) as well as paper documents, parchments, plans, posters, engravings, prints, maps and much more...
The workshop always offers respectful interventions to extend the life of the works while respecting their authenticity and future use.
Bookbinding and gilding
We also offer parallel traditional bookbinding services for old or contemporary books, with the possibility of titling and gilding on leather.

Training courses and workshops
